I love the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival. In case you need convincing...Giant pumpkins? (and by giant, I mean 1,524 lbs.) Pumpkin carving? A pie eating contest?? Plus my favorite giant turkey legs and the aforementioned fried things on sticks. And it marks the beginning of my favorite time of year. Fall in the Bay Area is crisp and sunny and well-dressed. What's not to like? Oh yeah--except getting there. The traffic into Half Moon Bay is ridiculous. Two years ago we rode our bikes instead. Traffic signs said the drive from the 280 junction would take 3 HOURS. We made it in just under an hour. That's a reason to kick the car habit if I've ever heard one.
